On Tuesday February 11, 2020 Prince George’s County Muslim Council teamed up with statewide organizations CAIR-MD and the United Maryland Muslim Council (UMMC) to sponsor Muslim Lobby Day 2020 in Annapolis and a legislative reception afterward. On this day, Muslims from various Counties including Prince George’s, Baltimore County and City, Montgomery, Howard and others visited offices of state legislators to seek their support for various bills introduced in the House of Delegates and the State Senate.
Breaking up into various small groups attendees spoke with legislators about civil rights initiatives such as the Educate Against Hate Act, the Child Interrogation Protection Act and the Maryland End Genocide Bill. Many of the legislators with which attendees met were supportive of the bills for which the Muslim participants were lobbying.
In the evening, participants were joined by various legislators including State Delegate Joseline Pena-Melnyk of Prince George’s County for dinner and discussion.
