Emerging County Leaders Internship Program 2025 Application

The Emerging County Leaders (ECL) Program was created in 2022 to provide practical experience to college students interested in civic affairs whether it is for professional or community interest. It is a summer internship for college students aged 18-25 that have completed at least two semesters of college. Interns work full-time at designated worksites in the public policy arena in the areas of legislative offices, government, law, advocacy and media. In the past two years we have placed students with the offices of Members of Congress, the County Executive, the State Comptroller, Muslim Network TV, local law firms, the Clerk of the Circuit Court and a professional lobbying organization. They also participate in educational site visits to public policy facilities such as the County Council and the White House.

Our program is designed to offer a combination of work experience and education. The internship will run for eight weeks from June 2nd, 2025 to July 25th, 2025. Student participants will be paid a stipend of at least $500 for each of the two months of the program. Students must participate fully in both their work site assignments and the educational component to receive their stipend. Priority placement is given to students whose permanent residence is Prince George’s County regardless of where they are enrolled in college.

Applications are due by March 28, 2025 11:59 PM.
