Advocation Improves Jumuah Services at PGC Department of Corrections Facility

PGCMC joined Brother Buheira Abdus Sabour, and Imam Talib Abdus Samad to meet with Prince George’s County Department of Corrections Director Terrance Clarke to discuss improvements to the religious services that are being provided to the Muslim inmates at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections facility in Upper Marlboro.  Zainab Chaudry, Director of CAIR-MD joined by phone. Working with former County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, PGCMC was able to garner her support for having Jumuah started in February 2023. Although there was a period of resistance to bring all the Muslim prisoners together as promised, Director Clarke has worked with Brother Buheira to create a unified Jumuah in the now available gym facility.

Additional Muslim volunteers, men and women are being sought to provide supportive services to the Muslim inmates. The Department of Corrections is also recruiting corrections officers for those who are interested.
