Advocating for Jumuah Services to be Held at PGC Department of Corrections Facility

Brother Buheira Abdus Sabour has been providing supportive services to the Muslim inmates at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro for several years. He has reported on constant resistance from the Department of Corrections on issues both big and small ranging from providing the inmates with religious educational materials to holding religiously obligated Jumuah services on Fridays. Working with County Executive Angela Alsobrooks insistedPGCMC was able to garner her support having Jumuah started in February 2023. At this time there is still resistance from the Department of Corrections to bring all the Muslim prisoners together as promised once the gym facility which has the capacity to hold all those who want to participate in Jumuah is completed. Additional Muslim volunteers, men and women are being sought to provide supportive services to the Muslim inmates.
